Whether you're planning a one-night stay or looking for long-term boarding, we know you have questions. Below are the most common inquiries we receive from horse owners traveling through Farmington, NM, as well as from our local clients.

If you don’t see your question here, feel free to call or text us at (575) 643‑8250 — we’re happy to help.

General Boarding

What types of horse boarding do you offer?

  • We provide overnight, short-term, and long-term boarding options. Horses can stay in secure stalls or pastures, and care includes fresh water, high-quality hay, and daily checks.

Is Rio Seco Boarding open 24/7?

  • Yes. We are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week by appointment. If you're traveling and arriving late or early, just let us know ahead of time so we can prepare.

Do you offer pasture or stall boarding?

  • We offer both. Stall boarding is ideal for overnight or horses that need containment. Pasture boarding allows for more movement and works well for longer stays or multiple horses.

Travel & Layovers

  • Can I stay overnight with my horse during a layover?

Absolutely. We specialize in overnight layovers for horses and their owners. You can board your horse in a stall or pasture, and you have the option to stay on-site via RV hookup or Airbnb.

  • Do I need to book in advance for a layover?

Yes. While we sometimes accept same-day arrivals, advanced notice ensures we have space ready and allows us to accommodate your arrival time.

  • What amenities are available for overnight guests?

    We offer:

    • RV hookups with 30/50-amp service
    • On-site Airbnb lodging
    • Trailer parking
    • Arena and round pen access
    • Turnout areas
    • On-site caretaker presence for added security

Health & Safety

  • What vaccinations are required for boarding?

We require proof of the following:

    • Negative Coggins test (within 12 months)
    • Current vaccinations

These policies help us protect all horses on the property.

  • Can you accommodate horses with medical needs or special diets?

Yes. We offer custom feeding plans and can administer owner-supplied supplements or medications (non-injectable). Let us know your horse’s needs in advance so we can prepare.

  • What if my horse gets sick or injured during their stay?

We monitor all horses daily and will contact you immediately if we notice anything concerning. In emergencies, we can connect with local veterinary services as needed.

Feeding & Care

What type of hay do you feed?

We feed a mix of high-quality grass and alfalfa hay. If your horse has a specific dietary need, you're welcome to provide your own hay or grain, and we’ll follow your instructions.

How often are horses fed?

Horses are fed twice a day — morning and evening — with access to clean water at all times. Additional feedings or custom schedules are available for long-term boarders.

Do you turn horses out daily?

Yes, turnout is part of our routine care. Horses are turned out individually or in compatible groups, weather permitting. Turnout frequency can be customized for long-term boarders.

RV & Airbnb Stays

Can I stay in my trailer or RV on the property?

Yes, we offer RV hookups with water and power for horse owners traveling with their own rigs. Let us know your setup (30- or 50-amp) when booking.

Do you have lodging options other than RV hookups?

Yes. We offer Airbnb accommodations right on or near the property. These are perfect for owners who prefer not to stay in their trailer. Visit our Airbnb Stays page to view current listings.

Facilities & Access

  • Is there space to park horse trailers?

Yes. We have ample room for trailer parking, turnaround space, and long rigs with living quarters.

  • Do you have an arena or riding space available?

Yes. We offer a full riding arena, round pen, and direct trail access for boarders and guests.

  • Can I check on my horse at any time?

Yes, with advanced notice. We offer 24/7 access to owners while their horse is boarded with us. For safety, we ask that you coordinate late visits in advance.
